Fight against Illegal Trade in Wildlife

The essay starts with a brief explanation of my witness when I was unaware about the wildlife and its trade. Then, the essay carry on with the core facts about the wildlife and its illegal trade.

My introduction to the wildlife trade happened on a shiny evening in 2009 as I was coming from the school to home. I was eleven year-old born into an affluent Nepali Brahmin family and we were at our home in mid-hill of Sindhupalchok district. Four of our elder school brothers were carrying a little long and pine cone shaped creature. Listening to them the creature is going to be sold out to someone else in twenty thousand. But, now I came to know that the creature I had seen that day is pangolin, which is the most endangered species.

Illegal trade in wildlife, itself a loss of information and knowledge of the wildlife world and more than that it harms the entire ecosystem. Day by day we are being questioned of complete life on earth due to illegal trade in wildlife. Furthermore, illegal trade in wildlife becomes a global issue in the world which we are not thinking about the impact of what we are losing every day. Plus, we have to bear a loss of wildlife species which push the biodiversity in peril due to the unstoppable trade in wildlife. As I understand it, illegal trade in wildlife directly shake the nation like Nepal that depends on wildlife reserve and tourism. Finally, based on the different source, I conclude my essay with how to fight against illegal trade in wildlife and nurture the way to stop the innocent wildlife from being poached.
By the way, I am wonder how human use and operate with the wildlife products. But wildlife and its parts/derivatives are traded globally for whatever the reasons including pets (live), hunting trophies, cultural pieces and mainly fashion accessories and ingredients for traditional medication, and even a wild meat for human consumption. Somehow it is a revolution in medicinal values and other products but through my view it is just a torture to an innocent animal they deserve to live freely. Illegal trade in wildlife is well-defined as an environmental crime, which directly harms the environment. Though, we are shortening the human civilization in the demand of these needed.
From my perch, I can show a complex triangular link between the income, poverty and engagement in wildlife trade which are being practiced in developing countries like Nepal. As an example from my own rural village, the poor and uneducated people who are applied in trade for porter and carrier do not get the majority of the trade's economical value and the people who own the trade are not poor in themself. The illegal trade in wildlife is a lucrative business that involves a diverse range of actors, from rural harvesters, professional hunters, intermediate traders, wholesalers and retailers to final consumers and users. This pattern of illegal trade in wildlife has the highest possibility for the maximum loss of manpower in illegal work along with the biodiversity in very minimal time which would be a threat to an endangered and rare species.
I hate the phenomenon of dooming the animals for the fulfillment of demands by the modern lifestyle of human being. Every creature want to live freely like us. They must not be tortured and disturbed in their own lifestyle. In my perception, animal's life should not be harmed because they have their own value in existence of human civilization till now. I am going to make my point strong that the illegal trade in wildlife should be banned in order to make a human civilization long term survival. It’s a great mistake that people are doing everyday knowingly. With the rises of this illegal trade and trader in wildlife and wildlife parts, some agencies, people, government had taken some efforts to instill love and respect of the rights of wildlife. Hundreds of activities had been done by the concerned agencies, people, and governments throughout the world in order to combat illegal trade in wildlife. If we love and respect the every animals for their value, many endangered species will bring out to their own life.
At the very first time, public has to be informed how their purchases could be driving these animals towards extinction. To fight against the illegal trade in wildlife, there must be a combination of strong law enforcement and high penalties in countries where wildlife is poached or illegally transported. The strong point to combat trade is to provide public education and awareness which is often cited as an important issue in the conservation of endangered species. I suggest that the best way of reducing the illegal trade of wildlife may sound be in Asia by convincing young people of consumer countries like China, Thailand, and others that their demand of wildlife parts is leading extinction of endangered species. The best key to combat the wildlife trade is education and inspiration that the loss of wildlife is cumulative loss. And this is the peak hour to act that every people of all the age group must be sensitize to wildlife.
Moving forward, we all have a lot of responsibility on our shoulders. We can choose many ways we could contribute to stop this environment disaster and it requires two things which are will and passion. Every people can contribute in their own respective way. For example, as a young student like me learning and studying this matter is also one of the contribution. Like a student, a good parents can show their support and seriousness by showing positive attitude to their children. This helps to build up the foundation required to produce a generation that love and protects nature for the coming years. Reduce the consumption of wildlife parts is also a way of increase in number of endangered species and increase in endangered species means more biodiversity saved from extinction. This shows that we don’t need to be an official wildlife speaker to contribute. People of all ages could give a helping hand and solve this matter. Don’t wait; start now because actions speak louder than words.
